MEET EMMELINE MEIJA

“Emme,” now a freshman at Bridgewater College, is one of our many first-generation students. She graduated from South Lakes High School in 2017 with a GPA of 3.5. Emme may not be the first female Sherlock Holmes, but she’ll be a darn good one. Passionate about the study of crime and criminology during her years at South Lakes, she commuted to the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy in Chantilly, VA, to attend classes in law, crime scene investigation and crime prevention. This was in addition to her already heavy course load of IB math, precalculus with trig, physics, honor English and history.

Emme’s extracurricular activities included high school soccer, varsity track, and singing in two acapella groups. During this time, Emme worked two jobs in order to contribute to home expenses and save for college. Despite her packed schedule, Emme stayed on the honor roll every single year of high school.

South Lakes Choral Director, Rita Gigliotti, wrote: “Emmeline’s work ethic, self-motivation and self-discipline are exemplary. Emme strives for excellence and is very enthusiastic about learning.”

Emme needed financial help to continue her education, and we at the Reston Scholarship Fund of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia are proud to help fund her education.
